An Update from Connie

Hey my stampin’ friends!  I have a few things to share with you.  First, I know I haven’t posted in a few days but there was a good reason.  I was making videos, playing with new Stampin’ Up products due to come out in the new catalog.  It was amazing and relaxing and FUN!  As you know I have 2 teenage daughters and it’s May.  May means lots of spring concerts, talent shows, banquets, awards nights, etc.  It has been INSANE in our house to say the least.

Well, sadly, things went from busy to devastating.  I’m sure you have heard about the tornadoes in Oklahoma the last 2 nights.  Shawnee is just one town over and Moore is my hometown.   My kids attend Moore schools and all their friends live here.  As you can imagine, we are all in shock over what is happening.  My family is safe and my home is safe.  It came close though.  It was heading right towards my home and my husband’s job but, like tornadoes tend to do, it shifted, then lifted just when it was getting closer.  Relief!  Then we saw the destruction the tornado left behind in our precious town.  It looks like a war zone.  I was able to get my youngest daughter out of school before it hit but my oldest was still at the high school.  The tornado came within a stone’s throw of her school and we couldn’t reach her through text messages or cell phones.  It was the most horrifying hours of a mom’s life!  We did finally get a text from her that they were in shelters but had no idea what was happening.  They didn’t know that a tornado had even touched down!  It took us several hours to get through traffic and debris to get to her but I was one determined mom who wanted her baby HOME.  Needless to say, she was very shaken when she realized what had happened.

Now, let me tell anyone who is still reading this… One thing you need to know about Okies…we have each other’s back!  We are strong and determined and we RUSH to the aid of our neighbors and strangers.  We take care of each other!  Our home was hit by a tornado in 2003 and I saw firsthand what the people in my town will do to help our their neighbors.  I am in tears just remembering it all.  We do appreciate your prayers for those families who have lost loved ones and children.  We appreciate your donations to the Red Cross to help these families who have lost everything.

If you would just give us a few days to recover from all of this, I would appreciate it.  We are fine but just in shock right now.  Thank you for your prayers and thoughts for the wonderful people of Moore.

I will be back with Flash Cards soon!!

I am glad you and yours are safe!! I have a brother in law who lives in Midwest City, that so far we haven’t been able to get hold of. I’m sure it is just cell phone service down. do you know if any of that part was hit? I know they are close. praying for you all! keep safe!

    • Connie says:

Midwest City is fine. Does he work at Tinker? That’s where my hubby works and it was heading that way but that’s where it started to life – just on the outskirts of Midwest City. I know the phone lines are down and most of us are without water (many without power). Unless he was in Moore for something, he should be safe. Keep texting him!! Text messages are starting to come though now. They are asking that we use text messaging and not calls so the cell phones can be used for emergencies. Please post again when you hear from him.

So very thankful you were spared, saddened at the loss others are enduring. We have very good friends who live in Shawnee and their house was in the path of the tornado on Sunday night. Thankfully it broke up just before it hit their area. It was close though. Our son and dil live in north TX and have been getting a lot of severe weather there as well. Scary.

We will all be here waiting until you are free to return, so no worries. We love your spirit and generosity and know others need you, especially now. We are a community and are in this together and wouldn’t want it any other way.

And I LOVE the Okie spirit. One of my favorite uncles was an Okie and he was the most generous person ever, always with a big ole smile and a heart to match.

God bless you and the great state of OK,

  121. Tina says:

    Dear Connie,
I don`t know if you have enough time to even read all this, but I want you to know that we think about you every day. What we hear on the news about that neighbourhood of yours is really great – I hope your friends and family can manage.
We hope to hear from you soon – not necessarily about flash cards – just keep us informed if you can.
    All the best from Germany,

  122. Tina says:

OMG I hope you understood what I meant to say: it`s great that all the neighbours are helping each other and that you all have faith – is what I wanted to say.

  123. Deedee says:

Connie, I am so happy to hear that your family is safe, and that your community’s spirit hasn’t been crushed despite the horrible devastation you have endured. As a mother, I can only imagine the agony of waiting and worrying about your daughter, and am so happy that your family is safe and reunited! I have been keeping the whole community in my prayers. I will continue to look for the remarkable blessings of folks like you who reach out to those who need help–that is the true silver lining in these situations! Thank you for all you do to bring sunshine into the darkest moments!

  124. Pat says:

God Bless you and your community. I have been praying for everyone that has suffered in this tragedy.

  125. Mary Mendoza says:

I’m glad to read your post I met you in Dallas this past February. I’m keeping you, your family and town in my prayers.

  126. Theresa says:

Connie I am so happy that you and your family are okay. My son finally got in yesterday to see the house. It was tough. He took pictures and I posted them. I don’t know how they made it out. I have been so impressed with his military family. They have come together to help him with a place to stay, clothing, food, transportation and moral support. He will start from scratch, but thank God he was spared. He loves Moore and is devastated over the loss of lives. Praying for your hometown and all involved.

    • Connie says:

Oh Theresa, I am so glad he was okay. I can’t imagine the feeling when he saw his home. Praise God he is okay!!!

  127. Theresa says:

Connie I am so happy your family is safe. I just retread the part about your daughter. I know how you were feeling. It was hours before we knew that our son was in the house. He got word to us and only asked for prayers for the school children after he saw the news coverage. Feeling so lucky.

  128. Jean says:

I also am glad your family is safe. Although I’ve enjoying your blog for awhile, I didn’t know where you live. The news reports are difficult enough to watch on TV – can’t imagine what it must be like in person. Thoughts and prayers continue for everyone affected.

  129. ccnz says:

Glad to hear you are all ok. You’re so sweet to be thinking about us not getting your videos in the midst of what you are all going through. You’re simply a star! You and your family in Moore are in our thoughts and prayers.

  130. Tanya Butler says:

Connie, praise God you and your family were protected. Such a terrible tragedy that hit OK! Prayers for everyone dealing with the destruction of the storm

  131. Kay Jacob says:

Dear Connie, I have spoken to you about your courage and my thoughts about it all. I would like to brighten things if I can. I have just returned from Convention in Brisbane, Australia. It finished last night. We had a ball. Shelli and everyone were so wonderful and for the 25th Birthday were so very generous. I am in such a happy place right now. I cant tell you too much because you are getting the same things but the new catalogue is just beautiful and for the first time every it is in line with yours and Canada’s one. So now when you talk about something on tutorials we will know what you are saying. I told a lot of your friends at Convention about what had happened to you and they were shocked. They plan to send you some comfort when they go back to Utah. Stay safe my dear friend. xxxxKay

    • Connie says:

Kay, did you have a wonderful time???? I just love Convention! I have been every year (except one due to a death in the family) and each year they just get batter and better.

I’ll bet the crowd went wild when they realized the catalogs were the same. I get a lot of comments from customers over seas who ask if I can send them certain stamp sets that I use. I can’t, of course, but now they can get from their local demo!

I have to brag on Stampin’ Up a minute. One my the girls on my team got a personal call from the home office. They were checking on her and offered to replace any of her lost stamps. I AM SO PROUD TO WORK FOR STAMPIN’ UP!!! They truly care about people and this gal was so impressed with them too. Luckily her home only received damage so she won’t have to take them up on their offer, but because her address was in Moore, they wanted to check on her. I LOVE THIS COMPANY!!

  132. Tammy Jo Tanner says:

Connie I am so glad to hear you and your family are safe. I thank you for all the things you do to help people like me be creative. I became a Stampin Up Demonstrator because of watching you on YouTube. When I seen what you can do I thought to myself that I can follow her and do that also. My friends and I have fun making cards because of what you have taught me. Thank you and God Bless you and your family.

  133. Sharron Simmons says:

I just discovered your site today and immediately was inspired. Thank you. May God grant you and the beautiful Oklahoma people His grace, love and peace during this trying time for each of you.
