Yesterday I was playing around with the Ombre Designer Paper in the Color Theory Paper Stack.  I’ve never tried stamping Ombre before and I had no clue what I was doing so I was just playing around.  I have no idea if this is a new idea  to the stamping world or if its been done before but it was an original idea for me and I was SO excited with what I came up with!  Check this out!

Today in Teach Me That, I will be showing you how to create this beautiful Ombre look and it’s SO easy to do.

Are you ready to learn how?  Here we go!

TEACH me That! A new series by the Technique Design Team. Learn a new technique every Thursday at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com.

OMBRE STAMPING

  • To create the Ombre look, pick 2 ink pads that are close to the same shade.  I am using Lemon Lime Twist and Wild Wasabi.

  • Ink your stamp in the lightest color.

TEACH Me That! Learn how to Ombre Stamp at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 22, 2017 blog post

  • In the darker color, gently tap in a random pattern on the top or the side (depending on where you want the Ombre look to be).  I chose the top so that it started dark and got lighter.

  • Huff on your stamp to moisten the ink and stamp onto your cardstock.

  • Check it out!  Wahoo!  So pretty!

  • You can do this same technique with our red rubber stamps too.  Here I inked the stamp with Flirty Flamingo first, then tapped the ink pad around the edges in Melon Mambo.

I am working on a MAKE IT MONDAY tutorial for this card.  Be sure to come back on Monday, June 26th, for that.

Can I rant for a second?  Sorry, I just need to get this off my chest.

You may remember back in April my email provider, Cox, out of the blue canceled my email account “due to lack of activity”.  I was livid to say the least.  I use my email daily, what do you mean LACK of activity?  I called and was reassured the email was sent by mistake. I asked them to check again, they did, and reassured me AGAIN that all was fine…. they were wrong.  They deleted it.  An hour and a half on the phone because they couldn’t figure out why this happened, I was back online.  Good.  Well, last week, got another email saying the same thing.  I called and got the same song and dance BUT they assured me numberous times that there is no problem and my account is safe.  WRONG again!  The entire family’s email addresses have been deleted.

Steam is coming out of my ears right now, folks.  I am FUMING!  17 years as a customer, never made a late payment…. I think this working relationship is done.

My apologies to anyone who tried to email me over the last week and it bounced.  Please use my other email, connie.a.stwrt@gmail.com.

How does someone get a new email address after having the same one for 17 years?  Ugh.  I think I am going to go have more coffee and have some stamp therapy.

There.  Rant over.  NOW I will put all this behind me and move on to a GREAT DAY.  I never want to let things like this ruin a perfectly beautiful day.

Thank you all for stopping by Simply Simple Stamping (and listening to my rant).

I hope that you will give the Ombre technique a try.  It’s kind of addicting!

Have a wonderful day my stamping friends!

I don’t know about you, but when I see the new Stampin’ Up catalog, I immediately look for the new bundles.  I LOVE my framelits and matching stamp sets….and I love saving money when I buy the bundles.  I get so excited about the new stamping toys that I can play with.  Stamping is my therapy and NEW ways to stamp just makes me happy.

Today I want to share a video from Stampin’ Up on the new HOME LIFE bundle.

Can I be honest with you for a minute?  When I saw it, I said to myself, “Meh”.  It just didn’t excite me UNTIL I watched this little video and now I GET IT!  When I saw the stamp set, I just didn’t understand what it was all about.

I love the sample card.  Can you see the flowers and how they are ‘popped’ off the card?  The die that comes with this card cuts ALL the flower with one swipe through your Big Shot.  Not having to lay out every flower die is awesome.  If that doesn’t excite you, I don’t know what will.

I could use some advice.  Anyone out there live full-time in an RV?  Let me explain why I ask.  Christina will be graduating college in a year and a half.  She is going to be a teacher and here in Oklahoma, teacher salary is dead LAST in the nation (you can imagine how proud we are of THAT but that is another soapbox).  She is concerned about the cost of living,  knowing her salary will be so low, especially as a first-year teacher.

We have talked to her about the possibility of living in the RV rather than an apartment.  With the tiny house craze being the” IN” thing to do, an RV makes a lot of sense.

Pros:

  • It’s fully furnished so no furniture to buy
  • RV campground are about half the cost of an apartment (and utilities are paid)
  • She won’t have to get a roommate (if you’ve ever had a horrible roommate, you understand why this is HUGE)
  • As she is paying for the RV, she is investing in something, not just throwing money at rent
  • If she changes jobs, she can hook it up and move
  • She can paint and decorate any way she pleases
  • When she decides to move into a house, she either has a great RV for weekend camping OR she can sell it

Cons:

  • This will only work if she is in a state that has mild winter temperatures
  • If she has to move, she will have to rent a truck to do that
  • Will she feel safe in it?  The locks on RVs aren’t the best
  • Repairs – no landlord to come and fix things
  • It’s a smaller space than an apartment
  • If she decides it’s not for her, she has to store and sell the RV

Can you see why this is a tough decision?  We came up with the idea to have to spend 2 weeks in the RV this summer (she is living there now) and then another couple of weeks in December so that she can experience the two extremes.

So, now you see why I ask for advice from anyone who has done full-time RV living.  If you have suggestions, drop me an email at connie.stewart@cox.net.  I sure would appreciate any advice you have!

I am now just busting at the seams over this bundle.  What a great card with lots of possibilities!  I hope you enjoyed it too.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for TEACH ME THAT – my series teaching you new techniques or reminding you of some techniques from the past.  I will be working on tomorrow’s TEACH ME THAT this afternoon!

2-Minute Tuesday Tip – Quick & Easy Bows

Happy Tuesday my stampin’ peeps!!!  Hope you’re having a wonderful day so far.  I am so glad you stopped by for a 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video.  Today’s tip is on making ribbon bows but you can also use Baker’s Twine using this tip.  There are LOTS of different ways to make a bow and today’s tip is quick and easy.

Making pretty bows was always a challenge for me. My bows always looked lopsided.  I learned this little trick to making bows and my lopsided days were done.  Today I want to share the trick with you.

It seems both my girls brought home an extra treat from Broadway Bootcamp – head colds.  Ugh.  Yesterday I watched two sick girls coughing, sniffing, blowing, and sleeping on my couch all day.  I feel so bad for them.  Not fun.  We heard from one student from bootcamp that they had strep throat so I am counting my blessings that this is nothing more than a nasty cold.  Strep is awful!

On the plus side, it meant that I could get laundry caught up, go through the mail, catch up on emails, etc.  I had a lot to do so having them just sleep it off was fine with me.  I do hope today is a better day and that it’s a short-lived cold.

Today I hope to get some stamping time under my belt but first…. gotta clean that room.  Something exploded in there!  Oh wait, that was just creativity at work.  Well, gotta clean up the creative mess and get back to the fun!

Hope you enjoyed today’s video and will grab some ribbon and get busy creating some beautiful, non-lopsided, bows!  Have a fabulous day my friends!  See ya tomorrow!

Warning…. today’s Dear Diary entry is long.  Skip down to the bottom if you’d like.  🙂

WHAT a wonderful week this was and I thought I would share some highlights with you.

Friday night, Kristin Chenoweth held a concert showcasing what the kids learned AND treated us to some fabulous celebrity talent as well.

The kids began the show with, what else, “Oklahoma”.  We all sprang to our feet as soon as it started.  It’s just an Okie thing.  We are proud of where we live and when that song is sung, EVERYONE sings.  The kids have such powerful voices.  43 kids and it was flawless.

I hope to be able to share actual videos from the show but we may have to wait for them to get put up on Kristin’s Facebook page. I hope to share Ginny knocking it out of the park with her solo in “Seasons of Love”.

In-between performances by the students we were treated to performances by the staff, most of them Tony award-winning or nominated.

My favorite of the night was John Tartaglia who sang, “If I Only had a Brain” from “Wizard of Oz”.  John is one of my favorite Broadway stars EVER.  After the show, I had the pleasure of meeting him and wouldn’t you know it, he was just about the NICEST guy ever (next to Mr. Awesome, of course).  We talked for about 10 minutes or so about the arts in public school and he shared how much this week meant to him.  We took this selfie.  Okay, can we just stop for a second and talk about this ridiculous goofy smile on my face?  I am DYING here, absolutely star-struck!  Just typing this and looking at his sweet face makes me giddy!  Oh, but I digress…. we are talking about the kids, right?

Throughout the night, there were 20 Kristi Awards handed out, for all sorts of different categories – some serious, some just fun.  Each winner got to give a short speech (just like winning a Tony Award).

The third award of the night went to Ginny!  We are SO proud of her!!  She was the only student to win in 2 categories – first, Sassiest Dresser.  This is so accurate because she was known around camp as the “girl with the pink glasses” and her 1950’s style. Here she is with Richard Jay-Alexander, who chose her for this award and presented it to her.  Oh, what an influence he had on these kids this past week!  He was Kristin’s right hand man.  Ginny ADORES him!

Her other award was the “Humanitarian Award”.  Proud Mom Alert!  On the first day of camp the kids were to introduce themselves and share something unique about themselves.  Ginny shared how she is starting a new program at her school in the fall working with special needs kids on stage.  Ginny has a HUGE heart for her special friends and wants these kids to have that same feeling of family and accomplishment that the theatre gives her.

The basic concept is for the Show Choir students to perform a condensed production of a musical but their special friends will be shadowing them. When they begin to feel comfortable in the role, the show choir kids will move away and their friends will take over but they are there to back them up and help them if they struggle.   Their first musical will be “Elf the Musical Junior” in December.

Kristin spoke about Ginny during the educator’s luncheon and Ginny’s choir teacher, Mrs. Herbal, was so proud to say “That’s my student!”  I’m proud to say, “That’s my kid!”

I want to close with this.  Theatre is about family.  6 days together and these kids became one big family.  They all sobbed as they said good-bye on Friday night. It’s their love of the stage, of singing, dancing, and acting that brought them together. These kids don’t need drugs and alcohol…. they have the stage to give them a ‘high’.  And to think…. they are trying to pull the Arts out of our public schools. What a mistake that will be and I hope that something will change soon.  The arts, ALL ARTS, have a place in our schools. It molds their lives and taking it away will mean that they will look for fulfillment in other places.  I don’t even want to think about the dark places they will look.  Off my soapbox now.  I LOVE being a Theatre Mom!

Thanks for being here today!  Sorry today’s post was so long. My blog is 95% stamping and the other 5% is my diary.  Blogging allows me to journal my memories and I just want to say THANK YOU for allowing me to do that here.

Well, I am HOME and ready to get some stamping done!!!  See you all back here tomorrow for a 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video!

What a fun and crazy week it’s been.  Last night the kids sang the National Anthem at a Drillers baseball game. They sounded amazing!  The video is on Facebook and I am not sure how to post it here (CLICK HERE to go to the Broadway Bootcamp page).

Yesterday they treated the choir and drama teachers of the students to a luncheon. Ginny’s choir teacher drove to Tulsa for that and I’m so glad she did. They really spoiled the teachers and being one of the worst states in the nation for teacher’s salaries, it was nice to honor them and thank them for staying in Oklahoma to teach.

Tonight is the Showcase the kids have been working on at Bootcamp and to say I am excited is an understatement!  Ginny has shared so many amazing stories over this past week and tonight we get to see them strut their stuff!

I will share what I can about the performance on Monday.

It’s been fun camping but this girl is ready to head home. We will pack it up all Sunday morning and it’s back home.  Yay!
