YAY!  It happened!  Ginny got her driver’s license with only 2 deductions, both on parallel parking.  Can you blame her?  Who doesn’t struggle with parallel parking?  I am so excited to say that “Mom Taxi” is no longer in business.  Ginny is a really good driver and a very defensive driver.  My Dad taught me defensive driving and I am so glad he did.  He taught me to always be watching what the other drivers are doing and to be prepared on how to handle it.  His advice has served me well and now I am passing that onto my kids.  Both Christina and Ginny and big advocates of NOT being on your phone while driving (this mom LOVES this).

To celebrate her birthday, Christina treated her to a ComiCon (comic convention).  Here they are dressed in costume (because that is the best part of ComiCon).

Christina is Kimmy Schmidt from “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” (a hilarious show on Netflix).  Ginny is decked out as a modern-day Merida from “Brave“.  Are they adorable or what?  Love it!  My whole family then went out to dinner at our favorite restaurant.  Gotta love family time!!!  Funny story….. someone called the cops on us.  No, I’m not joking!  There is a bingo hall right next to the restaurant and after dinner we were letting the kids run off some energy and we chatted some more.  Someone inside didn’t like that we were loitering outside and a police officer showed up.  He was super nice and thought the phone call was ridiculous as we were not doing anything wrong. He said he gets calls from them all the time.  Bingo must be pretty serious and having any movement outside the windows is a distraction.  Well, we weren’t arrested so that was good.  lol  Just still find it funny that someone would actually call and bother the police with something like that.

Ginny’s birthday weekend was completed with yet another trip to Tulsa (we have seen more of Tulsa in the past month than we ever saw in 17 years of living here).  We had tickets to see “Matilda: The Musical” and WOW was it amazing!

No words can describe this show!  Written by Roald Dahl (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) and if you know his writing, his stories are very dark.  The music was incredible and this show had about 9 amazingly talented kids.  I don’t think any adult could sing and do such physical choreography but these kids had some power.  The performance we saw was the final performance of the national tour.  How sad those kids must be to have this show come to an end.

Busy busy busy weekend but tons of fun!  Weekends like this make me happy to see Monday though.  I need this week to be a little calmer…. and no police.

Thanks for joining me for MAKE IT MONDAY!  I love sharing tutorials with you and whether you have the stamp set or not, I hope you will play with this Ombre technique.  It’s a lot of fun to create.  See you tomorrow for another 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video.  I’ll give you a hint…. it’s another tip on bow making.  I know you will want to see it.  Until then my stampin’ peeps!

Warning…. today’s Dear Diary entry is long.  Skip down to the bottom if you’d like.  🙂

WHAT a wonderful week this was and I thought I would share some highlights with you.

Friday night, Kristin Chenoweth held a concert showcasing what the kids learned AND treated us to some fabulous celebrity talent as well.

The kids began the show with, what else, “Oklahoma”.  We all sprang to our feet as soon as it started.  It’s just an Okie thing.  We are proud of where we live and when that song is sung, EVERYONE sings.  The kids have such powerful voices.  43 kids and it was flawless.

I hope to be able to share actual videos from the show but we may have to wait for them to get put up on Kristin’s Facebook page. I hope to share Ginny knocking it out of the park with her solo in “Seasons of Love”.

In-between performances by the students we were treated to performances by the staff, most of them Tony award-winning or nominated.

My favorite of the night was John Tartaglia who sang, “If I Only had a Brain” from “Wizard of Oz”.  John is one of my favorite Broadway stars EVER.  After the show, I had the pleasure of meeting him and wouldn’t you know it, he was just about the NICEST guy ever (next to Mr. Awesome, of course).  We talked for about 10 minutes or so about the arts in public school and he shared how much this week meant to him.  We took this selfie.  Okay, can we just stop for a second and talk about this ridiculous goofy smile on my face?  I am DYING here, absolutely star-struck!  Just typing this and looking at his sweet face makes me giddy!  Oh, but I digress…. we are talking about the kids, right?

Throughout the night, there were 20 Kristi Awards handed out, for all sorts of different categories – some serious, some just fun.  Each winner got to give a short speech (just like winning a Tony Award).

The third award of the night went to Ginny!  We are SO proud of her!!  She was the only student to win in 2 categories – first, Sassiest Dresser.  This is so accurate because she was known around camp as the “girl with the pink glasses” and her 1950’s style. Here she is with Richard Jay-Alexander, who chose her for this award and presented it to her.  Oh, what an influence he had on these kids this past week!  He was Kristin’s right hand man.  Ginny ADORES him!

Her other award was the “Humanitarian Award”.  Proud Mom Alert!  On the first day of camp the kids were to introduce themselves and share something unique about themselves.  Ginny shared how she is starting a new program at her school in the fall working with special needs kids on stage.  Ginny has a HUGE heart for her special friends and wants these kids to have that same feeling of family and accomplishment that the theatre gives her.

The basic concept is for the Show Choir students to perform a condensed production of a musical but their special friends will be shadowing them. When they begin to feel comfortable in the role, the show choir kids will move away and their friends will take over but they are there to back them up and help them if they struggle.   Their first musical will be “Elf the Musical Junior” in December.

Kristin spoke about Ginny during the educator’s luncheon and Ginny’s choir teacher, Mrs. Herbal, was so proud to say “That’s my student!”  I’m proud to say, “That’s my kid!”

I want to close with this.  Theatre is about family.  6 days together and these kids became one big family.  They all sobbed as they said good-bye on Friday night. It’s their love of the stage, of singing, dancing, and acting that brought them together. These kids don’t need drugs and alcohol…. they have the stage to give them a ‘high’.  And to think…. they are trying to pull the Arts out of our public schools. What a mistake that will be and I hope that something will change soon.  The arts, ALL ARTS, have a place in our schools. It molds their lives and taking it away will mean that they will look for fulfillment in other places.  I don’t even want to think about the dark places they will look.  Off my soapbox now.  I LOVE being a Theatre Mom!

Thanks for being here today!  Sorry today’s post was so long. My blog is 95% stamping and the other 5% is my diary.  Blogging allows me to journal my memories and I just want to say THANK YOU for allowing me to do that here.

Well, I am HOME and ready to get some stamping done!!!  See you all back here tomorrow for a 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video!

MAKE IT MONDAY – Flamingo Congratulations

I am really excited about today’s Make It Monday because it’s the first Make It Monday sharing ideas from the new catalog!  Today’s card is truly a “Connie Card”.  I LOVE flamingos!  I don’t know what it is about that bird but they are my favorites.  My friend Jackie created this card because my Fabulous Flamingo stamp set hasn’t arrived yet.  She and I have styles that are so similar and I absolutely love that she let me share her card for Make It Monday.

The 12-piece Fabulous Flamingo stamp set is also a 2-Step stamp set.  That’s how you can achieve those layers of colors and make the flamingo so realistic.  Because the stamp set is photopolymer, you can see through to where you need to stamp.  Easy peasy!

There are 5 sentiments in this set so if Congratulations aren’t in order, you can easily change it to “Tickled pink for you”, “I love you kind of a lot”, “Thanks”, or “That was awesome”.

Had a wonderful camping trip this weekend!  We only had a little rain but the good part about that was we were able to get in a few walks around the campground.  It was humid but I have been doing so good about exercising that I didn’t want to lose momentum.

One of the main reasons we wanted to go camping this weekend was to prepare the camper for our week-long camping trip next week.  Ginny’s Broadway Bootcamp starts Sunday and we decided to stay in the camper rather than a hotel room.  Camping for a week is a lot different from camping for a weekend so we wanted to make sure everything was in working order.  Well, it wasn’t.  Why is it when you are planning for something like this EVERYTHING seems to go wrong?  The strings on two of the blinds broke, the tail-lights were very faint for some reason, and the brakes on the camper weren’t working properly (eek!).  Mr. Awesome figured everything out (whew!) so the tail-lights and brakes are back in working order.  He ordered replacement strings for the blinds and that should be an easy fix.

On our way home, his low tire pressure light came on….in the POURING rain.  Uh-oh.  Luckily we were able to get to a gas station without having to pull over on the side of the road.  It seems he picked up a screw in the middle of the tire.  The good news, he didn’t have to change the tire because it was a slow leak.

Instead of stamping today, I get to sit in a tire store waiting for the repair to be done.  YUCK!  I hate tire stores!  They smell like….well, rubber… and not the stamping kind.

Have a wonderful Monday my friends!  I will be back tomorrow with a 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video!  Hope you will join me!

Best. Day. EVER!!!  Yesterday we drove to Tulsa, OK to see a musical I have been dying to see – “Something Rotten“.  The show was absolutely FABULOUS!!!  It’s been a long time since a show has moved up the ranks in my list of Top 10 favorites but “Something Rotten” just earned the #1 slot.

The cast was amazing and oh so talented and I was beyond excited to see Adam Pascal (whom I have loved since I heard him sing in the original “Rent” soundtrack) played William Shakespeare.  He stole my heart!!!  He was so fun to watch and you could tell he was having a blast in the role.

I found a fun video from “The Today Show” if you’d like to get a little taste of it but let me just say, if you love musicals, THIS is a “run don’t walk” to see it show!!!

And here is a fun piece of trivia for you.  The guy in this video who played Nick Bottom is one of my favorite actors, Brian D’Arcy James.  Well, I was digging through some old Playbills from shows I’ve seen and I found “Les Miserable” from 1991.  Mr. Awesome and I saw it on our honeymoon.  A little slip of paper fell out of the program and it had the understudies listed for our performance and you guessed it, Brian’s name was on that list.  He was understudying for a no-name character!  We must have seen him in this when he was a struggling actor.  I flipped my lid when I realized that we had seen him “way back when”!  It always makes me smile when I see him now.

It’s a shame the show closed yesterday or I would have paid to see it again.

That’s it for me today!  I am going to enjoy the day with Mr. Awesome and the girls!  I hope you have a wonderful day as well!

Fun and busy weekend for the Stewarts.  Tinker Air Force Base is just a few miles from my house and they celebrated their 75th anniversary.  What better way to celebrate than with the Thunderbirds!  I have loved watching the Thunderbirds (or the Blue Angels) perform since I was a kid.  My Dad loved to go to the air show every year.  Since the Base is so close to the house and we didn’t want to deal with traffic, we rode our bikes to the bike trail that is parallel to the runway.  It was AWESOME!  They flew right over my head!  I tried to get pictures but what I got were pictures of sky.  lol

We did get a 12-mile bike ride in that day but that evening, Christina wanted to get some exercise so we all went for a 2-mile walk.  No big deal, right?  No, it wasn’t….but Sunday morning we decided to get a 10-mile bike ride in before church followed by moving some wood around to the front of the house.  I am in SO MUCH PAIN right now!  I pulled something in my leg and I am SO regretting over-doing it.  Lesson learned!  I need to take it a little slower.  I’m not in my 30’s anymore.  I can’t do stuff like that.  Ugh.  I am living on Vitamin I (aka Ibuprofen) today.  It’s a good thing it was my leg and not my stamping arm, that’s all I’ve got to say.

Sunday was my favorite day though.  Ginny had her vocal recital and she wowed me with “How Lovely to be a Woman” from “Bye-Bye Birdie” – one of my favorites!  Then I got a real surprise.  Christina joined her on stage and they sang a song for me.  “Some Things are Meant to Be” from the musical “Little Woman” – a beautiful song about sisterly love.  I bawled my eyes out.  Wouldn’t you?  It was so beautiful.  I am going to try to get the video and share it later this week.

If you love the look of today’s card, be sure to use the May Host Code QMMNXM4H on your order of the Eastern Palace Bundle (choose the Starter Bundle or the Premier Bundle).  I have an incredible collection of tutorials for you showing you 24 different cards created with it.  You will absolutely LOVE this bundle!  Trust me!

That’s it for me today.  Now that the Vellum series is done, I am ready to share some new 2-Minute Tuesday Tip videos with you!  It’s off to my studio.  Have a wonderful Monday everyone!  See ya tomorrow!
