I’m having a great visit with my friends.  Don’t you love it when you get together with a friend you haven’t seen in months and months and you STILL have lots to talk about?  We did a little Christmas shopping yesterday at an amazing place called North Pole City.  Christmas exploded in this store!  It’s beautiful and we had fun just oohing and ahhing over all the gorgeous displays.  We laughed way too much (and I’m kinda surprised they didn’t kick us out – lol)

It sure has me excited to put up my Christmas tree!!!  Anyone else ready?  C’mon, Halloween is over.  We can put up the tree now, right?

How to Make Thanksgiving Pies in the Microwave

Learn to bake pie in the Microwave at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the October 29, 2016 blog post!

Wait…pies? I thought this was a stamping blog? Just stick with me.  Today’s post is a bonus post for this week.  I don’t normally blog on the weekends but since Thanksgiving is about a month away, I thought I would share with you a couple of videos that just might save your life this Thanksgiving.

There’s so much pressure on us at Thanksgiving.

  • Will the turkey thaw in time?
  • Will your mother-in-law turn her nose up at you stuffing?
  • Will your crazy uncle show up and make armpit noises at the table?

I am here to share with you a real time saver when it comes to making homemade pie.

I am NOT a cook…I hate to cook actually… but my Mom taught me this technique for making pies in the microwave. No, I’m serious! They are the BEST pies ever!!! We’ve been making pies this way since the 70′s when microwaves took up half your counter space. You do most of the baking in the microwave and then brown it in the oven for only 10 minutes. Perfect pies every time! I thought with Thanksgiving around the corner I would share these videos with you.

The first video will show you how to make Make-ahead pie dough. Let’s face it, that’s the hardest part about making a pie. This no-measure method will knock you socks off! Keep the dough in your freezer and you can make pie in a flash!

piecrustvideo

Simply Simple MAKE AHEAD PIE DOUGH
makes enough for 9 double crust pies

5 lb. bag all-purpose flour
2 Tablespoons salt
3 lb. tub of Crisco (butter flavored, if available)
3 cups ice-cold water
4 drops of yellow food coloring (makes your pies look prettier!)

Mix the flour and salt together. Add all the Crisco and cut in with a pastry blender. When it’s all mixed, add the food coloring to the ice water and pour in ALL AT ONCE. Mix with your hands and separate into approximately (9) 1 lb. pie dough. Flatten slightly and wrap in cling wrap. Place in freezer bags and freeze for up to 6 months.

Thaw when ready to use (about 10 minutes).

Border

Now that you have your pie dough made, let’s MAKE A PIE!!!  You can make any fruit pie in the microwave – apple, cherry, peach, raspberry, blackberry, snozzberry (who ever heard of a snozzberry?)

This video will teach you how to make a pie from beginning to end.  Just think, you might actually impress your in-laws this holiday?  Wahooo!

11 to 12 minutes in the microwave on high, 10 minutes in a 450 degree oven!  That’s it!

Make incredible pies in your Microwave! Flaky and delish! Check it out at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com and look for the October 29, 2016 blog post

Q:  If I use fresh fruit (ie. apples, cherries) do I need to change the cooking time?

A:  Nope!  Same cooking time and your apples will be crisp, not mush at all.  And let me share with you a GREAT tip from my Mom.  If you like raisins in your apple pie but want them to be plump and juicy, soak them in some imitation vanilla extract for about 10 minutes. Drain off the extract (pour it back into the jar), and you will have the most amazing sweet juicy raisins in your pie! I keep a bottle of extract in my cupboard just for raisins.

Q:  Can you make pumpkin pie in the microwave?

A:  YES!  My favorite sister (and only sister), Sheila, loves pumpkin pie.  I hate it.  She decided to give it a try and here is what she said…

“I microwaved the pie on medium (Level 6 of 10) for 10 minutes. The sides cooked well, and about a third of the pie looked set. Then I transferred it to the oven and baked 20 minutes @ 325. The pumpkin did pull away from the crust as it cooled, but whipped topping hid that nicely, and it set perfectly all the way through. So baking time was cut in half over the 1 hour oven method.”

I know that some of you may still be skeptical but I have received SO many emails and comments from viewers who tried it and now think I am a Pie Making Goddess.  It’s true, I am… but now THEY are too!  I hope you’re try it out.  You can join us in the Pie Making Goddess Hall of Fame!

I wanted to post this early enough so that you could try it out before the Thanksgiving rush.  I hope that you will.  It’s truly a fabulous recipe!

Now…. back to stamping!  See you guys on Monday!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend.  Our camping trip was really nice.  It was fall break for a lot of the schools around here so the campground was full.  Lucky for us our favorite spot was one of the few that was left open.  We did have one little issue though.  Can I vent for a minute?  What has happened to common etiquette?  Growing up, my Dad taught me that you don’t walk through another person’s campsite.  It’s THEIR site, they paid for it, and unless you absolutely HAD to walk through their site to get somewhere you asked permission to walk through.  Mr. Awesome was a Boy Scout and they were taught the same etiquette.

Many many years ago, one of the craziest camping trips ever (and one that will go down in infamy in the Stewart house), was about 17 years ago.  A Boy Scout troop was camping near us and at 7am (yes, 7 AM) the leaders sent the boys out into the campground to play Capture the Flag…. throughout the ENTIRE campground.  I’m asleep, alone in the camper with Christina who was about 3 at the time (Mr. Awesome was coming to join me that night) and I hear something under my camper.  The dogs start barking like crazy, and I am terrified.  I lift the shade to see these 10-year-old boys crawling under my camper and climbing on my table.  I call out to them to get out of my campsite.  They TOTALLY ignore me.  Oh, I don’t THINK SO!  So I yell a little louder….again, they ignore me and keep playing their game.  Then, Evil Connie came out and scream (I’m sure the entire campground heard me)  “GET OUT OF MY CAMPSITE!!!!”  Now, the funny part of the story was hearing 3-year-old Christina tell the story to her Dad when he came up later that night.  Sweet little Christina put her hands on her hips, “And then Mommy yelled GET OUT OF MY CAMPSITE!!” in the funniest growling voice ever.  This is the infamous part of the story because anyone who would ask Christina, “What did your Mommy say to those boys?”  She would reenact it.

It’s a camping story that my BFF Brenda (who was camping right next to me that morning) tells all the time.  Okay, maybe you had to be there, but my point is this…. these Boy Scouts KNOW better!  Oh, who am I kidding, it was their LEADERS who sent them out.  The end of the story goes like this…. I wasn’t the only camper who had visitors under their camper at 7am.  EVERY camper in the campground did.  The Boy Scouts were asked to leave… they refused…. and the police had to be called to “escort” them out.  It made the papers and everything.  Bwahaha.

Why am I telling you this very LONG story?  This weekend, guess what these little scouts did?  Not capture the flag but tennis…. IN MY CAMPSITE!  Momma bear was right there watching them!  Ugh.  And then their ball hit my camper.  I stick my head out the door and ask, “Did you just hit my camper?”  “No” (little liar).  Mr. Awesome politely asked them to take their game back to THEIR campsite.  It’s a good thing or Evil Connie would have screamed “GET OUT OF MY CAMPSITE!!”

So, my question is this….. Momma Bear, why did you think it was a good idea to move the kids out of your campsite?  Oh, let me guess?  You didn’t want the ball to hit your nice camper or your pretty little truck, am I right?  So the most logical thing was to bring them to the campsite across from yours and let them hit MY camper instead of taking them to that huge field at the end of the campground.  That would have been silly, right?  UGH!!!!  So… there is a funny ending to my extremely long story…. The boys did go back and play ball in their campsite and they hit it too far and the ball landed in my site.  They were both to scared to come over and get it.  LOL

Now, I am not a mean person and I love the fact that these boys were outside in the fresh air and having fun.  I just don’t get parents who SEND their kids to go play their game in someone else’s campsite and think it’s acceptable.  Camping etiquette, that’s all I ask.  Wonder what Momma Bear would have thought if I took Roxie and Buddy over to their campsite and let them do their business?

Rant over…. like I said, maybe you had to be there.  I texted Brenda right away to say, “You’re NOT going to believe this.  Never thought I would have to use the phrase “get out of my campsite” again to a Boy Scout.  17 years later… I did.”

See ya tomorrow my friends!

Make It Monday – Thankful Grateful Blessed Card

MAKE IT MONDAY - FREE tutorial at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com

Good morning my sweet stampin’ peeps!  I’ve had some requests to share Thanksgiving cards and this is one of my favorites that I’ve created.  Some of you might recognize this card because it’s similar to the thank you card I sent out last month to those who placed an order on my online store.

It’s a very simple card to make but the colors are bright and fit the season perfectly.

Make It Monday - Thankful Grateful Blessed Card - download the FREE tutorial at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the October 10, 2016 blog post!

It’s always nice to add a little ribbon to card.  These (3) ribbons comes together in a pack. With 5 yards on each spool, you can make LOTS of cards like this because all you need is 1″ of ribbon on each card.

I also used the Crumb Cake Note Cards & Envelopes.  I absolutely adore the Note Cards.  They come pre-scored and include the envelopes.

Did you notice it’s also a Flash Card?  Flash Cards fit like a glove on the Note Cards!

Just for fun, I embossed the flap of the envelope with the Woodgrain embossing folder.

Mr. Awesome has the day off of work today.  YAY!  He may wish he was going back to work because we’re going to continue trying to learn this new computer program.  We started yesterday and I finally had to walk away from utter frustration.  I really struggle learning new programs like this.  You know the ones…. the programs that are going to make my work EASIER but all they do is fluster me?  Yeah, one of THOSE.  Ugh.  I think I have figured out the one for photos but today I am tacking the one for videos. Wish me luck!

See ya tomorrow for a new 2-Minute Tuesday Tip!
