Notice how the white embossed image ‘resisted’ the ink?  Very pretty!

I love this technique and the new glossy cardstock makes is really shine!  Are you ready to learn how?  Here we go!

EMBOSS RESIST TECHNIQUE

  • This technique is designed to leave the stamped image white while adding color to the background.  The stamped image will “resist” the ink (thus the name).
  • Emboss Resist works best on Glossy White Cardstock because of the shine but you can also create it with Whisper White cardstock as well.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Give your cardstock a nice rub down with your Embossing Buddy.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Stamp your image in VersaMark ink and quickly sprinkle with white embossing powder.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Tap off the excess embossing powder and heat set this image.
  • Because of the glossy cardstock and the quick drying time, you will have better results if you heat emboss right away rather than do all the stamping and emboss at the end.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Heat set your image with a heat gun until the embossing powder has all melted.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Repeat the stamping…

  • …embossing powder and the heat tool.

  • Now that your cardstock is embossed, it’s time for some magic.  Using a sponge dauber and your favorite color ink (I’m using Lemon Lime Twist), start by swirling the ink VERY lightly on your cardstock and over the embossed image.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Press harder on the sponge dauber to achieve a deeper color but always start softly.  Remember, you can always add more ink but you can’t take it away.  Start softly and gently.

  • With a paper towel or tissue, gently buff the glossy cardstock and embossed image to a shine.

Now you’re ready to create a card using the technique?  Here are the measurements for my card but get creative with your project:

  • Basic Black  – 8 ½” x 5 ½”, score and fold at 4 ¼”
  • Glossy White – 5” x 3 ¾”
  • White Cardstock (inside) – 4” x 5 ¼
  • Lemon Lime Twist – 4” x 5 ¼”

OMBRE STAMPING

  • To create the Ombre look, pick 2 ink pads that are close to the same shade.  I am using Lemon Lime Twist and Wild Wasabi.

  • Ink your stamp in the lightest color.

  • In the darker color, gently tap in a random pattern on the top or the side (depending on where you want the Ombre look to be).  I chose the top so that it started dark and got lighter.

I am working on a MAKE IT MONDAY tutorial for this card.  Be sure to come back on Monday, June 26th, for that.

Can I rant for a second?  Sorry, I just need to get this off my chest.

You may remember back in April my email provider, Cox, out of the blue canceled my email account “due to lack of activity”.  I was livid to say the least.  I use my email daily, what do you mean LACK of activity?  I called and was reassured the email was sent by mistake. I asked them to check again, they did, and reassured me AGAIN that all was fine…. they were wrong.  They deleted it.  An hour and a half on the phone because they couldn’t figure out why this happened, I was back online.  Good.  Well, last week, got another email saying the same thing.  I called and got the same song and dance BUT they assured me numberous times that there is no problem and my account is safe.  WRONG again!  The entire family’s email addresses have been deleted.

Steam is coming out of my ears right now, folks.  I am FUMING!  17 years as a customer, never made a late payment…. I think this working relationship is done.

My apologies to anyone who tried to email me over the last week and it bounced.  Please use my other email, connie.a.stwrt@gmail.com.

How does someone get a new email address after having the same one for 17 years?  Ugh.  I think I am going to go have more coffee and have some stamp therapy.

There.  Rant over.  NOW I will put all this behind me and move on to a GREAT DAY.  I never want to let things like this ruin a perfectly beautiful day.

Thank you all for stopping by Simply Simple Stamping (and listening to my rant).

I hope that you will give the Ombre technique a try.  It’s kind of addicting!

Have a wonderful day my stamping friends!

2-Minute Tuesday Tip – Quick & Easy Bows

Happy Tuesday my stampin’ peeps!!!  Hope you’re having a wonderful day so far.  I am so glad you stopped by for a 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video.  Today’s tip is on making ribbon bows but you can also use Baker’s Twine using this tip.  There are LOTS of different ways to make a bow and today’s tip is quick and easy.

Making pretty bows was always a challenge for me. My bows always looked lopsided.  I learned this little trick to making bows and my lopsided days were done.  Today I want to share the trick with you.

It seems both my girls brought home an extra treat from Broadway Bootcamp – head colds.  Ugh.  Yesterday I watched two sick girls coughing, sniffing, blowing, and sleeping on my couch all day.  I feel so bad for them.  Not fun.  We heard from one student from bootcamp that they had strep throat so I am counting my blessings that this is nothing more than a nasty cold.  Strep is awful!

On the plus side, it meant that I could get laundry caught up, go through the mail, catch up on emails, etc.  I had a lot to do so having them just sleep it off was fine with me.  I do hope today is a better day and that it’s a short-lived cold.

Today I hope to get some stamping time under my belt but first…. gotta clean that room.  Something exploded in there!  Oh wait, that was just creativity at work.  Well, gotta clean up the creative mess and get back to the fun!

Hope you enjoyed today’s video and will grab some ribbon and get busy creating some beautiful, non-lopsided, bows!  Have a fabulous day my friends!  See ya tomorrow!

TEACH ME THAT – Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folders

TEACH Me That! Learn how to create with Dynamic Textured Embossing Folders at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 15, 2017 blog post

TEACH me That! A new series by the Technique Design Team. Learn a new technique every Thursday at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com.

Today in Teach Me That, I will be showing you, step-by-step, how to use the Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folders.  Hmmmm that’s a lot to type so how about I call it DTIEF.   Everyone good with that?  Cool.

These folders are similar to our Textured Impressions Embossing Folders but there are some differences.

The DTIEF are designed to:

  • Leave a deeper impression
  • Give more detail
  • No bottom cutting plate required
  • Spritz with water or emboss dry
  • Be easier to sponge ink on final impression

Are you ready to learn how to use them?  Here we go!

  • Begin with you Big Shot Platform.  If you are using the platform with the hinges, you will want all the tabs ‘out’.

  • Lay the DTIEF directly on the Big Shot platform (no bottom cutting plate).TEACH Me That! Learn how to create with Dynamic Textured Embossing Folders at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 15, 2017 blog post
  • Place your cardstock inside the DTIEF.
  • Some die cutting machines can ‘cut’ through the paper.  It’s best to test on a scrap piece of cardstock first.  If your DTIEF is cutting into the paper, you should spritz with water first.  The Stampin’ Spritzer is perfect because it’s leaves a fine mist on your cardstock.TEACH Me That! • Just look at the super deep impression!
  • You can leave it ‘as is’ or you can gently sponge ink to make the impressions pop even more.

Day 3 of Broadway Bootcamp was unbelievable!!!  So much happened but the big thing was that Ginny landed a BIG solo for Friday night’s performance. The song is “Seasons of Love” (Rent) and at the end of the song there is a VERY high note that is always a show stopper. I will be sure to record it and share next week.

All the kids were treated to professional headshots and the make-up girl said to Ginny, “How many times a day do you get told you look like Taylor Swift?”  It’s true, she does.

Ginny also had her session with Faith Prince on her audition song and she taught her SO much.

Last night was the Broadway Dance Party. All the kids dressed as their favorite Broadway character. Ginny went as Maria from “Sound of Music”.

Here she is with Kristin Chenoweth and Faith Prince.

She had an amazing night! Today is a full day. She goes until 7:30pm and then off to a Drillers baseball game to sing the National Anthem. She won’t be back until about 10pm so yep…long day for sure. Does she mind?!? Heck no! She’s having the time of her life!!!

I just fell in love with the Pinewood Planks Hearts Card so I decided to make a video on it.  And guess what?  It is a MAKE IT IN MINUTES video too.  Be sure to tune in tomorrow for that!

2-Minute Tuesday Tip – Mounting & Trimming Rubber Stamps

Blast from the Past 2-Minute Tuesday Tip

Because I am out of town this week, I wanted to share a couple of 2-Minute Tuesday Tip videos that have been super helpful to me.  As many of you get your NEW stamp sets in from the new Stampin’ Up catalog, I hope today’s tips will be helpful.

The first tip I want to share with you a great idea for mounting your clear mount stamps (the red rubber stamps).  I really struggled to get those stamps to mount right on the vinyl label and today I want to share this tip on how to make it easy peasy double cheesy.

Border

Have you ever hit the outside edge of a stamp with ink?  So irritating, right?  It’s happened to all of us.

I appreciate that Stampin’ Up stamp sets are already die cut but there are just some stamps that need to be cut closer to keep from catching that outside edge.  Today I have video that will help you with this.  You won’t have to do this to every stamp you have, mind you, but let’s face it…. we just have some that need to be trimmed down.

One pair of Paper Snips dedicated to cutting rubber are a must!  To add these to your next order, click the pic!

Border

Well, Day 1 of Broadway Bootcamp was amazing!  Ginny came home with SO many great experiences and a notebook full of notes.  The tips these Broadway stars are sharing are phenomenal.

Ginny sang her song for Kristen Chenoweth and Kristen smiled and said, “That is your money song!”  (A money song is the term used for the song that will get you the part.)   Ginny was freaking out….in a good way.  The choreographer, Lara Teeter, was wonderful but Ginny quickly learned she needs more help I need this area. Hey, that’s what this Bootcamp is for – to learn your strengths and weaknesses so you can improve.

Today she will work one-on-one with Tony Award winner Faith Prince, who is going to really tear into her audition song and help her perfect it.  They also brought in a professional photographer to do their resume headshots today.

I’m sure today will be another amazing day but they called it Bootcamp for a reason.  Ginny was there working for 11 hours yesterday. Just think of all that knowledge she is gaining! Wow! Over 200 high school students auditioned for this camp and they chose 45 to attend.  I am so proud of my girl and excited to watch her grow from this experience!

I hope that everyone has a fabulous Tuesday! I will be back tomorrow so I hope you’ll join me then! From Tulsa with love! ❤️
