The EMBOSS RESIST TECHNIQUE leaves such a stunning impression.  In today’s TEACH ME THAT, I am going to show you step-by-step how it’s done.

Notice how the white embossed image ‘resisted’ the ink?  Very pretty!

I love this technique and the new glossy cardstock makes is really shine!  Are you ready to learn how?  Here we go!

TEACH me That! A new series by the Technique Design Team. Learn a new technique every Thursday at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com.

EMBOSS RESIST TECHNIQUE

  • This technique is designed to leave the stamped image white while adding color to the background.  The stamped image will “resist” the ink (thus the name).
  • Emboss Resist works best on Glossy White Cardstock because of the shine but you can also create it with Whisper White cardstock as well.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Give your cardstock a nice rub down with your Embossing Buddy.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Stamp your image in VersaMark ink and quickly sprinkle with white embossing powder.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Tap off the excess embossing powder and heat set this image.
  • Because of the glossy cardstock and the quick drying time, you will have better results if you heat emboss right away rather than do all the stamping and emboss at the end.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Heat set your image with a heat gun until the embossing powder has all melted.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Repeat the stamping…

  • …embossing powder and the heat tool.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Now that your cardstock is embossed, it’s time for some magic.  Using a sponge dauber and your favorite color ink (I’m using Lemon Lime Twist), start by swirling the ink VERY lightly on your cardstock and over the embossed image.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • Press harder on the sponge dauber to achieve a deeper color but always start softly.  Remember, you can always add more ink but you can’t take it away.  Start softly and gently.

TEACH Me That! Learn the Emboss Resist technique at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 29, 2017 blog post

  • With a paper towel or tissue, gently buff the glossy cardstock and embossed image to a shine.

Now you’re ready to create a card using the technique?  Here are the measurements for my card but get creative with your project:

  • Basic Black  – 8 ½” x 5 ½”, score and fold at 4 ¼”
  • Glossy White – 5” x 3 ¾”
  • White Cardstock (inside) – 4” x 5 ¼
  • Lemon Lime Twist – 4” x 5 ¼”

YAY!  It happened!  Ginny got her driver’s license with only 2 deductions, both on parallel parking.  Can you blame her?  Who doesn’t struggle with parallel parking?  I am so excited to say that “Mom Taxi” is no longer in business.  Ginny is a really good driver and a very defensive driver.  My Dad taught me defensive driving and I am so glad he did.  He taught me to always be watching what the other drivers are doing and to be prepared on how to handle it.  His advice has served me well and now I am passing that onto my kids.  Both Christina and Ginny and big advocates of NOT being on your phone while driving (this mom LOVES this).

To celebrate her birthday, Christina treated her to a ComiCon (comic convention).  Here they are dressed in costume (because that is the best part of ComiCon).

Christina is Kimmy Schmidt from “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” (a hilarious show on Netflix).  Ginny is decked out as a modern-day Merida from “Brave“.  Are they adorable or what?  Love it!  My whole family then went out to dinner at our favorite restaurant.  Gotta love family time!!!  Funny story….. someone called the cops on us.  No, I’m not joking!  There is a bingo hall right next to the restaurant and after dinner we were letting the kids run off some energy and we chatted some more.  Someone inside didn’t like that we were loitering outside and a police officer showed up.  He was super nice and thought the phone call was ridiculous as we were not doing anything wrong. He said he gets calls from them all the time.  Bingo must be pretty serious and having any movement outside the windows is a distraction.  Well, we weren’t arrested so that was good.  lol  Just still find it funny that someone would actually call and bother the police with something like that.

Ginny’s birthday weekend was completed with yet another trip to Tulsa (we have seen more of Tulsa in the past month than we ever saw in 17 years of living here).  We had tickets to see “Matilda: The Musical” and WOW was it amazing!

No words can describe this show!  Written by Roald Dahl (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) and if you know his writing, his stories are very dark.  The music was incredible and this show had about 9 amazingly talented kids.  I don’t think any adult could sing and do such physical choreography but these kids had some power.  The performance we saw was the final performance of the national tour.  How sad those kids must be to have this show come to an end.

Busy busy busy weekend but tons of fun!  Weekends like this make me happy to see Monday though.  I need this week to be a little calmer…. and no police.

Thanks for joining me for MAKE IT MONDAY!  I love sharing tutorials with you and whether you have the stamp set or not, I hope you will play with this Ombre technique.  It’s a lot of fun to create.  See you tomorrow for another 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video.  I’ll give you a hint…. it’s another tip on bow making.  I know you will want to see it.  Until then my stampin’ peeps!

OMBRE STAMPING

  • To create the Ombre look, pick 2 ink pads that are close to the same shade.  I am using Lemon Lime Twist and Wild Wasabi.

TEACH Me That! Learn how to Ombre Stamp at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 22, 2017 blog post

  • Ink your stamp in the lightest color.

TEACH Me That! Learn how to Ombre Stamp at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 22, 2017 blog post

  • In the darker color, gently tap in a random pattern on the top or the side (depending on where you want the Ombre look to be).  I chose the top so that it started dark and got lighter.

I am working on a MAKE IT MONDAY tutorial for this card.  Be sure to come back on Monday, June 26th, for that.

Can I rant for a second?  Sorry, I just need to get this off my chest.

You may remember back in April my email provider, Cox, out of the blue canceled my email account “due to lack of activity”.  I was livid to say the least.  I use my email daily, what do you mean LACK of activity?  I called and was reassured the email was sent by mistake. I asked them to check again, they did, and reassured me AGAIN that all was fine…. they were wrong.  They deleted it.  An hour and a half on the phone because they couldn’t figure out why this happened, I was back online.  Good.  Well, last week, got another email saying the same thing.  I called and got the same song and dance BUT they assured me numberous times that there is no problem and my account is safe.  WRONG again!  The entire family’s email addresses have been deleted.

Steam is coming out of my ears right now, folks.  I am FUMING!  17 years as a customer, never made a late payment…. I think this working relationship is done.

My apologies to anyone who tried to email me over the last week and it bounced.  Please use my other email, connie.a.stwrt@gmail.com.

How does someone get a new email address after having the same one for 17 years?  Ugh.  I think I am going to go have more coffee and have some stamp therapy.

There.  Rant over.  NOW I will put all this behind me and move on to a GREAT DAY.  I never want to let things like this ruin a perfectly beautiful day.

Thank you all for stopping by Simply Simple Stamping (and listening to my rant).

I hope that you will give the Ombre technique a try.  It’s kind of addicting!

Have a wonderful day my stamping friends!

Warning…. today’s Dear Diary entry is long.  Skip down to the bottom if you’d like.  🙂

WHAT a wonderful week this was and I thought I would share some highlights with you.

Friday night, Kristin Chenoweth held a concert showcasing what the kids learned AND treated us to some fabulous celebrity talent as well.

The kids began the show with, what else, “Oklahoma”.  We all sprang to our feet as soon as it started.  It’s just an Okie thing.  We are proud of where we live and when that song is sung, EVERYONE sings.  The kids have such powerful voices.  43 kids and it was flawless.

I hope to be able to share actual videos from the show but we may have to wait for them to get put up on Kristin’s Facebook page. I hope to share Ginny knocking it out of the park with her solo in “Seasons of Love”.

In-between performances by the students we were treated to performances by the staff, most of them Tony award-winning or nominated.

My favorite of the night was John Tartaglia who sang, “If I Only had a Brain” from “Wizard of Oz”.  John is one of my favorite Broadway stars EVER.  After the show, I had the pleasure of meeting him and wouldn’t you know it, he was just about the NICEST guy ever (next to Mr. Awesome, of course).  We talked for about 10 minutes or so about the arts in public school and he shared how much this week meant to him.  We took this selfie.  Okay, can we just stop for a second and talk about this ridiculous goofy smile on my face?  I am DYING here, absolutely star-struck!  Just typing this and looking at his sweet face makes me giddy!  Oh, but I digress…. we are talking about the kids, right?

Throughout the night, there were 20 Kristi Awards handed out, for all sorts of different categories – some serious, some just fun.  Each winner got to give a short speech (just like winning a Tony Award).

The third award of the night went to Ginny!  We are SO proud of her!!  She was the only student to win in 2 categories – first, Sassiest Dresser.  This is so accurate because she was known around camp as the “girl with the pink glasses” and her 1950’s style. Here she is with Richard Jay-Alexander, who chose her for this award and presented it to her.  Oh, what an influence he had on these kids this past week!  He was Kristin’s right hand man.  Ginny ADORES him!

Her other award was the “Humanitarian Award”.  Proud Mom Alert!  On the first day of camp the kids were to introduce themselves and share something unique about themselves.  Ginny shared how she is starting a new program at her school in the fall working with special needs kids on stage.  Ginny has a HUGE heart for her special friends and wants these kids to have that same feeling of family and accomplishment that the theatre gives her.

The basic concept is for the Show Choir students to perform a condensed production of a musical but their special friends will be shadowing them. When they begin to feel comfortable in the role, the show choir kids will move away and their friends will take over but they are there to back them up and help them if they struggle.   Their first musical will be “Elf the Musical Junior” in December.

Kristin spoke about Ginny during the educator’s luncheon and Ginny’s choir teacher, Mrs. Herbal, was so proud to say “That’s my student!”  I’m proud to say, “That’s my kid!”

I want to close with this.  Theatre is about family.  6 days together and these kids became one big family.  They all sobbed as they said good-bye on Friday night. It’s their love of the stage, of singing, dancing, and acting that brought them together. These kids don’t need drugs and alcohol…. they have the stage to give them a ‘high’.  And to think…. they are trying to pull the Arts out of our public schools. What a mistake that will be and I hope that something will change soon.  The arts, ALL ARTS, have a place in our schools. It molds their lives and taking it away will mean that they will look for fulfillment in other places.  I don’t even want to think about the dark places they will look.  Off my soapbox now.  I LOVE being a Theatre Mom!

Thanks for being here today!  Sorry today’s post was so long. My blog is 95% stamping and the other 5% is my diary.  Blogging allows me to journal my memories and I just want to say THANK YOU for allowing me to do that here.

Well, I am HOME and ready to get some stamping done!!!  See you all back here tomorrow for a 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video!

Today in Teach Me That, I will be showing you, step-by-step, how to use the Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folders.  Hmmmm that’s a lot to type so how about I call it DTIEF.   Everyone good with that?  Cool.

These folders are similar to our Textured Impressions Embossing Folders but there are some differences.

The DTIEF are designed to:

  • Leave a deeper impression
  • Give more detail
  • No bottom cutting plate required
  • Spritz with water or emboss dry
  • Be easier to sponge ink on final impression

Are you ready to learn how to use them?  Here we go!

  • Lay the DTIEF directly on the Big Shot platform (no bottom cutting plate).TEACH Me That! Learn how to create with Dynamic Textured Embossing Folders at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com - look for the June 15, 2017 blog post
  • Place your cardstock inside the DTIEF.
  • Some die cutting machines can ‘cut’ through the paper.  It’s best to test on a scrap piece of cardstock first.  If your DTIEF is cutting into the paper, you should spritz with water first.  The Stampin’ Spritzer is perfect because it’s leaves a fine mist on your cardstock.TEACH Me That! Day 3 of Broadway Bootcamp was unbelievable!!!  So much happened but the big thing was that Ginny landed a BIG solo for Friday night’s performance. The song is “Seasons of Love” (Rent) and at the end of the song there is a VERY high note that is always a show stopper. I will be sure to record it and share next week.

All the kids were treated to professional headshots and the make-up girl said to Ginny, “How many times a day do you get told you look like Taylor Swift?”  It’s true, she does.

Ginny also had her session with Faith Prince on her audition song and she taught her SO much.

Last night was the Broadway Dance Party. All the kids dressed as their favorite Broadway character. Ginny went as Maria from “Sound of Music”.

Here she is with Kristin Chenoweth and Faith Prince.

She had an amazing night! Today is a full day. She goes until 7:30pm and then off to a Drillers baseball game to sing the National Anthem. She won’t be back until about 10pm so yep…long day for sure. Does she mind?!? Heck no! She’s having the time of her life!!!

I just fell in love with the Pinewood Planks Hearts Card so I decided to make a video on it.  And guess what?  It is a MAKE IT IN MINUTES video too.  Be sure to tune in tomorrow for that!
