MAKE IT MONDAY – Thank You So Very Much

MAKE IT MONDAY - FREE tutorial at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com

It’s hard to believe that Sale-a-Bration will be over at the end of the month.  I know you all have enjoyed receiving FREE stamps, designer paper, and embellishments during this promotion.

The So Very Much stamp set and Delicate Design stamp set were the first Sale-a-Bration items I chose. I would guess that a lot of you did too so I wanted to share a fabulous tutorial with you on Make It Monday using these stamp sets.

I love how BIG the “Thank You” sentiment is.  It makes for quick and easy cards.

The Delicate Designs stamp set also gave this card a touch of “lace” and it’s so soft and delicate (thus the name of the stamp set, I suppose).

IRS stands for “I’d Rather Stamp!”.  Well, it should.

I had been dreading this weekend for a long time.  Yes, it’s that FUN time of year where I hear my husband SIGH about a thousand times, my dining room table is covered in receipts, and I spend my time grabbing numbers to plug into TurboTax.

I think a root canal would have made for a better weekend.  I truly hate tax time but it must get done.  As we continue throughout the week to plug along on these, if I seem crabby, you’ll know why.  Maybe this will be the year I convince Mr. Awesome to take the taxes into an accountant?

Tax time does put a crimp in my stamping time so tomorrow I will have a Blast from the Past 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video!  Did you know that I have been doing these videos for 2 ½ years?  Surely you missed one here or there so I thought I would share one from the past with you tomorrow.  Hope you don’t mind.

Happy birthday to ME!!!!  My birthday present came early!!!  I have wanted a fire pit for my back patio for the last year.  Mr. Awesome wasn’t picking up the hint so I ordered my own last week.  (Please tell me I am not the only one who has to order their own presents.)  My fire pit wasn’t expected for another week according to the website but there was a knock on my door and this HUGE box was sitting there!  It weighed about a million pounds.  Maybe a million and one.  I decided to leave it there knowing NO ONE could steal this off my porch.

Mr. Awesome came home early to put it together so we could use it right away.  I had been reading reviews on different fire pits and how hard they were to put together.  Imagine our surprise when this one came straight out of the box looking like this.  No assembly!  YAY!  We just poured in the lava rocks and turned it on.  Last night, we turned on some music, started up the fire, and enjoyed a nice night with a warm fire.  I am ONE happy camper right now!

Oh, and I just have to brag about my great deal.  I saw this fire pit on a website for $788.  OUCH!  Way out of my price range.  Did some digging and found the same one (just a lighter tile on top) for $220.  WAHOO!!!  I love bargain hunting!  It’s a girl thing.  It’s all about the hunt for the good deal and the best price and when you find it, you feel you have conquered the world of retail.

Have a wonderful weekend my stamping peeps!  See you all back here on Monday!

FLASH CARD – Fluttering Butterfly – Video No. 92

Yesterday I shared a card in my 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video that several of you asked about.  I decided to use the technique and turn it into a Flash Card with a different framelit. It turned out so pretty!

This is the Butterflies Thinlit set and the Sheltering Tree stamp.  Could it be any easier?

I used Teeny Tiny Wishes so that I could get really creative with the sentiments.  There are 24 sentiments in that stamp set so the possibilities go on and on!

Let’s get doing with today’s FLASH CARD video….

Here are my measurements in case you missed them.

  • Pool Party Cardstock – 11″ x 4 ¼”, scored and folded at 5 ½”
  • So Saffron Flash Card – 2 ¾” x 4 ¼”
  • Whisper White OR Very Vanilla Flash Card – 2 ½” x 4″
  • Crushed Curry Bakers Twine – 8″ to 10″

2-Minute Tuesday Tip – Protect Your Stamped Art from the Rain

We don’t always know what our stamped art looks like when it gets to the recipient but this quick trick will assure that your stamped card will arrive free of water damage from the rain!  It’s such a smart idea.  Today’s 2-Minute Tuesday Tip is a simple one but it sure makes a world of difference.

Be sure to add envelopes to your next order!  Click a pic to order!

I hope you enjoyed today’s video.  It’s a simple tip but protecting my artwork for 10 cents is a great investment.

Had some GREAT news come in my email yesterday.  Remember that trip we took for Ginny’s audition for Kristin Chenoweth’s Broadway Boot Camp?  She got in!!!  I am so excited for her (and actually really jealous).  Only 40 kids are accepted into the program and there was a lot of talent there. One of her friends also made it in so she’s happy that she will know someone there.

Basically the week will consist of Master Classes.  These are concentrated classes where the students will get some in-depth study in their art. Kristin Chenoweth is a multi-Tony award winner who grew up here in Oklahoma (and attended the same college Christina is now attending).  She is a very generous woman and has given so much of herself and her money to bringing theatre arts into our state.  It’s just so incredible that Ginny will be able to work with her.

And as if THAT weren’t exciting enough, Ginny had an orthodontist appointment yesterday and she is officially done with braces AND the retainer!  She only has to wear it at night now.  She has total freedom now.  Needless to say, she has had the best week of her life… and it was only Monday.

Well, that’s it for me today!  Thanks for stopping by!

Don’t forget that Sale-a-Bration is still going on through March 31st!  Be sure to check out the NEW additions that have been added too!  Remember, selections are “While Supplies Last” so if you’ve had your eye on a certain stamp set or accessory, don’t wait!

Make it Monday – Look Who’s Turning 50 card

MAKE IT MONDAY - FREE tutorial at www.SimplySimpleStamping.com

While I was in Arizona last week, Sharon and Jackie and I had an amazing time stamping together.  We were all making Birthday cards and I remembered seeing something like an odometer using the Number of Years stamp set.  This is what I came up with.

I sent a picture of it to Mr. Awesome who replied, “Looks good.  Can I sign it and give it to you?”  That man… <sigh>

I really love how this turned out and what I love most is that this card is perfect for the MEN… and we all struggle with cards for the guys, right?

It was just so easy with this stamp set!  Since this set is Photopolymer, I could see perfectly where to stamp my numbers.

These photos just warmed my heart so much!  This was the closing night of “The Sound of Music” and this was the night Christina came to see her sister in the lead role of Maria.

One thing about the Stewart girls…. we cry.  We don’t WANT to cry but we cry anyway.  The moment that Ginny walked on stage singing “The hills are alive with the sound of music…” Christina was in tears….and yes, so was I.

I know I brag on my girls a lot but when you are blessed with sisters who love each other as much as these two, I just can’t help it.  For so long now it has been Christina in the lead roles, mainly because Ginny is still so young, but this past week was Ginny’s turn to shine in the lead.  Christina just couldn’t be more thrilled to hand over the torch to Ginny at Moore High School.

Is our time on the stage done for a while?  Nope!  lol  Christina just started rehearsals for the musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” (you might know the movie with Steve Martin and Michael Cain).  She plays Jolene, the girl from Oklahoma.  In the movie its a smaller role but on stage it’s much bigger. Jolene is a “not so nice” girl from Oklahoma and she sings all about her love for her state.  It’s a big “belt” song and that is Christina’s  vocal style.  So, the first week in April we will be back to see Christina take the stage.

Life should settle down around here now that rehearsal is over and the curtain has closed.  I am excited to get my stamp room cleaned up so I can get create some videos for you guys in the month of March.

Hope you all have a fabulous Monday!  See you tomorrow for a new 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video!

I come home, grab the mail and I got the SHOCK OF MY LIFE!

AN AARP CARD!!!!!!!!  Wait… what?????  No, no, no… there must be some mistake.  Is this some kind of joke?  Then the reality hit me.  I turn 50 this month.  This card in the mail was actually for me and I wasn’t quite ready for it. <gulp>  Okay, I am ready to brace myself for this milestone….but that card.  I think I will hide it for a while.

Mr. Awesome kindly reminded by that at 50 I should get a colonoscopy.  He was a good man.  It’s a shame I had to pack his stuff and throw it on the lawn.  lol

Now or WOW Flash Card – With Sympathy Dragonfly – Video No. 89

Now or WOW - a new series by Connie Stewart - www.SimplySimpleStamping.com

Sympathy cards are not the cards we want to ‘make’ but the fact is, they are the most important cards we make.  Today’s NOW or WOW card will showcase a very simple sympathy card.

Let’s start with the NOW card.

Dragonfly Dreams has been one of our most popular bundles in the Occasions catalog and when you see the detail in the dragonfly, you can see why it’s a hit.

This card has a nice soft touch to it with those faded dots.

A little “pop” of the dragonfly and in minutes you have a sympathy card ready to mail.

Oooh, but look at the WOW card!

I love the texture the Hexagon Embossing Folder gave to the Blushing Bride cardstock.

The Gold Wink of Stella made a tremendous difference in the dragonfly.

And to tie in the gold, I added Gold Metallic Thread and Metallic Enamel Shapes.  It truly is a WOW card.

Let me share today’s NOW or WOW video with you….

Here are my measurements in case you missed them:

  • Mint Macaron Card base – 8 ½” x 5 ½”, score and fold at 4 ¼”
  • Blushing Bride Flash Card – 4 ¼” x 2 ¾”
  • Very Vanilla Flash Card – 4″ x 2 ½”

WARNING! BRAGGING MOM MOMENT!  I mentioned yesterday that I was heading out to see Ginny play Maria in her high school production of “Sound of Music”. I just want to scream from the rooftop how AMAZING SHE WAS!!!  I know, you’re siting there saying that any mom would say that but GUYS, SHE WAS SO AMAZING!  Not gonna lie, I bawled through the entire show.  I was just so proud of her.  The entire cast did a great job but this mom was just memorized by Ginny. She has such a beautiful voice.  You need to know that she got this talent from my Dad, not me.  My Dad was a very talented singer…. and I know he is in heaven bragging to everyone about his granddaughter’s performance.

Can I share another story that warmed my heart?  This was a school performance so it was all high school kids.  I found a chair next to an older woman and her wheelchair bound husband.  As we waited for the show to begin we struck up a conversation and she was the choir director’s mom.  Her husband had a severe stroke a year ago and just getting him to the show was a chore but “Sound of Music” is his favorite musical.

As the opening music started, and Ginny came out singing “The Hills are Alive”, this sweet man burst into song.  Don’t misunderstand, he wasn’t loud, but he was so moved by the music that he just had to sing.  His wife would lean over and whisper, “Honey, don’t sing, don’t sing” so he hummed…. the most beautiful hums I have ever heard.  What blessed me was that this man, who due to this stroke couldn’t communicate or comprehend our conversation…. but music he understood.  He knew EVERY word to every song.  Okay, so I am bawling as I type this but to see the POWER music has in our lives and how this man couldn’t even speak… but he could sing….well, I just had no words, only tears of joy.
