Getting Started: Choosing Your Paper
The first step in creating your Double Diagonal Pocket Card is selecting the perfect 8 ½” x 11″ two-tone paper or Designer Series Paper.
Here’s a couple of pro tips:
- If you use Designer Series paper: opt for random patterns or designs that don’t have a specific vertical or horizontal orientation. Because of the unique fold structure, the pattern will appear in various directions. Avoiding directional patterns will ensure your finished card looks polished and intentional.
- This card doesn’t work as well with cardstock due to the bulk you get from the pockets so thinner paper will be best.
- Before diving in with your beautiful paper, I always recommend starting with regular copy paper. This practice run builds confidence and helps you master the double diagonal pocket technique. Don’t worry if your first attempt isn’t perfect – it’s just a practice paper! Once you’ve got the technique down, you’ll be ready to create with your chosen designer paper.

Thank you so much. You really did well and gave us an example of being patient and gentle with ourselves.
We’ve all been there. Great example of keep on, keeping on. Never give up!
This is great card! The video is wonderful, too, BUT you make it sound like pre-recording is a cheat!! IT’S NOT. While I enjoy “Connie Live” and all that comes with it, I’m the one who can’t always take the extra time to watch a LIVE. Pre-recording is not only less stressful for you– I can watch it as soon as it’s available because mostly, it’s about 15 minutes instead of 30-60 minutes. You’ve edited what you thought could be confusing (doesn’t matter to us, Connie! We love you ALL the time!) and demonstrated with copy paper, made your sample and maybe had time enough to make the second example (coffee).with us!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful idea! I’ll be making it soon!
We’ll all miss the Nothing’s Better Than set; we’ll be waiting for the NEXT design you make at your next landmark!
I liked that your video showed REAL craft time with awkward moments included!!! I am ever so grateful for the free written instructions. Bless you.
