Wow!! What a weekend we had. I told you that we headed out to go camping on Friday and we had a bit of a scare while we were there.
While Mr. Awesome was getting things set up on the outside of the camper, I was working on the inside. I kept smelling something odd, like the smell your furnace makes when you turn it on for the first time of the season. You know, that kind of dusty burning smell? I couldn’t figure it out and decided it must just be something in the air conditioner that was blowing. 
The next morning, I was up before Rich, just relaxing on the couch, when the power started going crazy. On, off, on off. I thought it was some kind of power surge but then I heard a crackling sound. That’s when I woke him up and told him something was seriously WRONG.
This is what I heard cracking! The wiring in the camper had been burning! That was the smell I couldn’t identify. It’s a good thing I am married to an electrical engineer because he figured it out. See that little orange thing? Well, it has to be tightened down to a certain “torque” so that the wires maintain contact at all times. It looks like at the factory, ours wasn’t torqued right and over time on the road, the wires worked themselves further and further apart until one of them was arching. The top of the plastic casing was melted and as you can see, burnt wires everywhere. We were a fire waiting to happen. This scared the bee-jeebies out of me! It could have been so much worse. How this didn’t turn into a full blown fire is beyond me? I spent the rest of the weekend thanking God that He spared us from that and this was the worst we got.
Mr. Awesome showed his awesome side by stripping all the wiring and re-wiring it… oh and making sure that little orange thing was torqued the way it should have been. I will sleep well from now on knowing it has the Mr. Awesome Seal of Approval.

I am very thankful you & family are ok. We were driving to Colorado in our motorhome one Feb. & smoke began billowing out from behind the microwave (we weren’t using it). It was the wiring so when we got to Colorado, we had to stay in a condo. It was scary for sure!
