Have you been seeing the Eclipse Cards all over Pinterest and wondering “How did they make that”? Today I want to teach you how easy and fun they are to create.
Are you ready to learn how? Here we go!
ECLISPE TECHNIQUE
Before I begin, let me share some basic tips with you.
- You are very limited on the number of letters you can put on a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” card. Four letters is about the most you can use.
- The technique is not limited to letters. Use the numbers, punches, or any of your favorite Framelit dies.
- You can stamp on the cardstock or use Designer Series Paper, it’s up to you. You can also emboss the cardstock too. Get creative!
- Save ALL the die cut pieces because some letters will need to be filled in with what you might think is scrap (the center of the O or the inside of the B, for example).
- Make sure your dies are straight before running through the Big Shot.
Okay, now that the basics are out of way, let’s get to creating!
Here are the supplies you need:
- Card Base
- Designer Paper or stamped cardstock
- Large Letter Framelits (although I will share with you some other things you can use)
- Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals
- Begin with the Big Shot platform, the Thin Die adapter, and a cutting place.
- Place your framelits on the Designer Paper and line them up straight.
- Notice that I have a ‘hole’. Well, I only have one “O” so I will die cut twice.
- Save all the pieces that are die cut. We will use all of them.
- Die cut the last “O”.
- Add SNAIL adhesive to the back of the Designer Paper, adding some little dots of adhesive in between the letters.
- Adhere onto the cardstock layer (if you’re not using a layer, you can adhere directly on the card base).
- Place the die cut (don’t adhere them!) as shown, making sure the patterns match up.
- Add SNAIL adhesive to the backs of the ‘negative’ parts of the letter.
- Adhere them inside each letter.
- Remove the letters.
- Add Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals to the letters.
- Adhere the letters, just slightly offset on the card.
What else can you create besides “Boo!”? Here are a few things I thought of…
- LOVE (you)
- (Just a) NOTE
- (Welcome) BABY
- HEY (friend)
- HI (there)
- (Thank) YOU, (Happy Birthday to) YOU, (Miss) YOU
- (Have) FUN!
- (Let it) SNOW
- NOEL
- JOY (to the world)
- (Love you) MORE
- MOM or DAD

- HOPE
- (It’s Your) DAY!

Here’s another card I created using the Life Me Up stamp set.
I stamped the cardstock first, then I die cut the letters.
I think this card shows off the technique a little better too.

Thank you tons Connie! I’ve been wondering how this is done but haven’t taken the time to investigate….fabulous tutorial with excellent pics 🙂
Thank you, I have been wanting to make these. I always appreciate your tips.
Thanks, pretty cool technique. Do you always put blak underneath the letters?
No, that’s not necessary but for this card I did. On my SOAR card I used Marina Mist so any color will do.
