Paper crafting begins with a beautiful first cut, which means having the right tool for the job is kind of a big deal so I’ve got a complete guide to the new paper trimmer by Stampin’ Up!
In today’s Tuesday Tip video, I am going to share why I love Stampin’ Up’s new Paper Trimmer. I can’t even begin to tell you how THRILLED I am with new design, the long lasting blades (yes, no more dull blade issues – wahoo!) and features that are going to make our paper crafting easier.
Some may say, “What’s the big deal? It cuts paper.” Yes, but the NEW paper trimmer cuts through MORE than one layer of cardstock and Designer Series Paper. 3 and even 4 in some cases!
New Paper Trimmer Video Guide:

There are so many features on this paper trimmer at a fabulous price point and it’s going to make all of your paper crafting so much easier to have a dependable, reliable paper cutter. Whether you use this as a scrapbooking tool, card making tool, or general paper crafting purposes– you won’t be disappointed!

I have had a few comments pop up regarding why I said to always cut up and not down. I should have clarified that more so let me explain.
When your paper is butted up against the TOP of the cutter, the block, of course, ensures the paper is straight. When you push your blade UP the paper, you are pushing the paper against that block.
If you were to pull DOWN on the paper when it butted up at the top, your paper is being pushed down where the is no block. This means your paper could shift and you won’t have a straight cut. We don’t want that.
The blades are double sided so here are my suggestions. Flip your trimmer around so the arm is on the left side and continue to cut upwards OR you can but your paper against the bottom block and push the blade down, ensuring it stays in place.
I hope that clears up any confusion. My sincere apologies for not making that more clear in the video. One the most stressful things about creating videos is not sharing all the information you mean to share. Once the video is posted, it can’t be changed on YouTube. Again, please accept my sincere apologies.

I hope you enjoy every single minute of whatever it is you do! Make it a wonderful day my sweet friends!
I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday for a new YouTube Premiere featuring the brand new Christmas is Here Suite. Trust me when I tell you, you are going to want to be here for this. You won’t believe how versatile this stamp set is and how you can use it all year long.
See you on Thursday!
Thank you for the great tips. I LOVE my SU paper cutter so was a little hesitant to order a new one when I really don’t need it. But somehow it jumped into my cart and it will be here soon!!! .
I think you can find a use for your old one too. I have 2 in my craft room because I seem to be all over the place in there.
Thank you for the paper cutter demonstration. It was very informative and helpful.
Susan, I am so glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching!
Great tips, Connie! I have a question though. If the blades cut in both directions, why do you say to always cut going up? You are only using half the life of the blade by doing that. I realize that you can probably flip the blade around at some point. But why always cut up instead of either direction? Thanks for your response.
Excellent question Linda. Sometimes when filming videos I realize after I didn’t explain the “why” in more detail. The reason you always cut upwards is so you are pushing your cardstock up to the block. This keeps your cardstock from shifting and ensures a straight cut. What I didn’t make clear is that you can do the same thing at the bottom (or flip your cutter around). The blade is double sided so you can cut both directions but cutting down when your paper is butted up at the top can cause your paper to shift and no longer be straight in the cutter. I hope that clears it up. Sorry for not being more clear. The hardest part about shooting videos is remembering everything you need to say.
No need to apologize. We are all learning about the new cutter so I was just checking out the “Hows & whys”. Thanks for responding and have a wonderful week!
I hope that helped clear it up Linda! Thanks! I just didn’t want anyone to think I was being deceptive. I just didn’t explain myself very well.
I would really love to purchase one of these amazing trimmers, however as I live in New Zealand how can I purchase one please?
Sheryl, you will need to purchase the paper trimmer from a demonstrator in New Zealand. Go to http://www.stampinup.com and look in the upper left corner. There is a flag. Click on the drop down menu and click on New Zealand. Then on the right side you can click on “Find a Demonstrator”. I hope that helps!
Thank you so much for the demonstration; your enthusiasm is contagious. You should move to Canada so I can order from you. LOL Now I need Stampin’ Up to make some blades with decorative edges!! I don’t find the scissors with fancy edges work very well, but I really like the different edges.
In the description it says you can hang it. I have tried to figure that one out. I would love to hang it but how?
Just use a hook or a small nail. There is an opening at the top of the paper trimmer so it can hang easily on the wall. Hope that helps!
I don’t know when I will ever get on You Tube or Facebook as a Demonstrator, but do you think that the next time you talk about the Paper Trimmer, that you can mention where the 1/8, 3/8, 5/8, 7/8 measurements are? A lot of Demonstrators go through it rather quickly and if not familiar with it, it can be confusing. I finally looked it up on Google and then used my label maker to mark it on the Paper Trimmer because in a sense it is backwards.
I have a video that will help you – https://simplysimplestamping.com/how-to-read-ruler-easy-method/ Be sure to download the free giant ruler to keep nearby to help you see those smaller measurements easily.
