2-STEP STAMPING
When I first started stamping with Stampin’ Up back in 2002, there was one stamp set in particular that made me fall in love with stamping. It was called “Terrific Tulips” and it was the first 2-Step stamp I had ever seen and it was that set that had me hooked on stamping.
I love that 2-Step stamping is still a “thing” and it still wows me every time I create with these amazing stamps.
See how you can create dimension and texture with just ink and stamps?
Today in Teach Me That, I will be showing you step-by-step how to do the 2-Step.
Are you ready to learn how? Here we go!
2-STEP STAMPING
All of Stampin’ Up’s 2-Step stamp sets are in photopolymer because being able to see where you are stamping is crucial for 2-Step stamping. If you have any of our older 2-Step stamp sets, they may be red rubber (clear or wood mount) and for those, I would recommend a Stamp-a-ma-jig for better placement. (CLICK HERE FOR A TEACH ME THAT using a Stamp-a-ma-jig)
I’m going to be using the Sweet Cupcake stamp set. This set has a twist — it’s actually a 3-Step although you can create great projects with 1, 2, or all 3 layering stamps.
- The first thing I want you to notice about this set are those little numbers by the cupcake. See the 1-2-3? They are there to help you know the order of the stamps. Nice addition, huh?
- So, I am going to begin with Stamp #1. Stamp #1 will be your darkest or deepest color. I am stamping in Flirty Flamingo using Stamp #1.
- Not very impressive right now, but just wait.
- I am now ready to stamp with Stamp #2. I chose Blushing Bride but it was just a little too dark so I chose to stamp off on scrap paper first.
- Most of the 2-Step stamp sets are designed to just lay right on top of the other. The great thing about photopolymer stamps are that they clear so you can see right where to stamp.
- The other great thing about 2-Step stamping is that being 100% accurate on placement isn’t crucial. You want to be close but if you’re off a little to the right or left, your images will still be beautiful.
- Last stamp – Stamp #3. Pink Pirouette is the perfect color to fill in my white space.
- Delish!!! I love how it turned out!
Here are a few other ideas using the Sweet Cupcake stamp set and the 2-Step stamping technique.
The Sweet Cupcake stamp set also has a set of matching framelits, Cupcake Cutouts. With some Stampin’ Dimensionals, your cupcakes can have lots of great dimension.
A shout-out to my Stampin’ Up demonstrator friend, Lee, who shared these cards with me. Thanks Lee!

Okay, I want to take you back in time. Think back to your early school days. The mornings you didn’t want to get out of bed, that teacher who you were sure hated you, and the awful math homework. Not your favorite school memories. Now, I want you to think about the last day of school! Ahh, what a wonderful day! Signing yearbooks, saying good-bye to friends and you boarded the bus, and that teacher you didn’t like? You probably didn’t even say a word as you left her classroom. lol
Well, today is the last day of school for Ginny. Is she excited? Well, DUH! She is ready for summer vacation!!!
She wanted to take her first day of school photo and wear the same outfit on her last day of school. She wanted to see how much she had changed.
First Day of School
Last Day of School
She has changed!!! These are the photos that I know I will treasure.
Thank you all SO MUCH for your kind words regarding my 2-Minute Tuesday Tip video. Your “Atta Girl” comments totally trumped the “Negative Nellies” and I hope you know that I appreciated every single one of them. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
As I mentioned yesterday, rather than trying to re-film the Tuesday video, I am going to create a new Flash Card for you so please be sure to come back tomorrow for that.
Love to all of you! Have an awesome day! I know that I will….my heart is full today thanks to you!

connie: your two minute tip videos are over the top fun to watch. even if i am familiar with the technique you are teaching, i just love to watch the videos for YOU. the fluttering hands, the not-taking-myself-too-seriously approach, the really neat things i am learning from you even after stamping for 13 years. anyway, just wanted you to know how much you are appreciated from this seasoned (okay, somewhat seasoned) demonstrator. i dont always take the time to watch videos (who has that kind of time!!!) but i take time to watch yours, even if they run a little longer than two minutes :)))

Connie, I love all that you share with us. I am glad that you are my demonstrator, I can’t afford all that I want from Stampin Up but when Publishers Clearing House visits me I will be ordering a truck full!! Ginny definitely looks older & wiser in the second picture. She is so cute!
You are the sweetest Debby, thank you so much!
Thanks for the “teach me how” tips — in the past I have tried to stamp the cupcake and it took forever so I’m willing to try it again now with your help.
P.S. I love school pictures! all I can say is she just gets prettier!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it Laura! Thank you!
Connie, can’t even imagine anyone criticizing you or your videos! They must not realize these videos are gifts from your heart, no one requires you to come up with these, take the time to film and then share them with us. Shame on them! I absolutely do know that negative words can eat at your soul, they bother me no end. Please know only unhappy people need to criticize others to make themselves feel better. Only two kind of people in the world, builders and wreckers! Happy people build each other up and the other kind…,well you know. Keep up the good work for those of us who appreciate it!

Connie, Beautiful daughter. Enjoy your summer. Once again love your videos Thank you
Love this card. I don’t have this set but it helps me understand how to the other 2-step stamps. You’re the BEST!!!!
